TermDescription
Capture PriceCapture prices represent the average price per megawatt-hour (MWh) received by a renewable energy producer for electricity sold in the market.
CongestionA situation where the demand for electricity transmission exceeds the available capacity of the transmission network or distribution network, creating two subsystems with different marginal cost.
CurtailmentThe reduction of generation from renewable energy sources due to grid constraints or oversupply.
Curtailment RateThe percentage of potential energy generation that is not utilized due to grid constraints or oversupply.
DecarbonizationThe process of decommissioning of coal power plants.
DispatchThe process of where a power plant generate in order to meet demand. In Chile this is regulated and coordinate by the CEN.
Fossil Fuel GenerationElectricity generated from fossil fuels such as coal, gas, and oil.
Hydro GenerationElectricity generated from hydropower plants, including dams and run-of-river technologies
InjectionThe process of supplying electricity to the power grid.
Marginal CostsIn Chile, the system operates on a marginalist model, where generators are dispatched based on their variable costs. The marginal cost is determined by the variable cost of the most expensive generation unit required to meet the current demand.
NodeNode refers to a specific point within the power grid, typically at a substation, where electricity is injected by generators or withdrawn by consumers.
OutageA period when a power plant or transmission line is not operational due to failures.
Peak PriceThe highest price of electricity observed during a specific period.
Plant FactorThe ratio of the actual output of a power plant over a period of time to its potential output if it had operated at full capacity the entire time.
Reference NodeA designated node used as a reference point for pricing and other calculations in the power grid. In DNV’s case the reference node is Polpaico 220 kV.
Renewable generationElectricity generated from renewable power plants, including PV solar, Wind, Run-of-River, Dam and BESS.
Renewable ShareThe proportion of electricity generated from renewable energy sources in the total energy mix.
Technical MinimumThe lowest level of operation at which a thermal power plant can safely and reliably operate
Transmission ConstraintsLimitations in the transmission network that restrict the flow of electricity.
Variable CostThe variable cost of a generator refers to the costs it makes for electricity generation and includes Fuel Costs, Maintenance Costs and Operational Costs.
